Why North Dartmouth houses need more than a catalog
Our window treatment services start from one simple idea: a shade only works if it suits the window it hangs in, and the windows around North Dartmouth are anything but uniform.
Head toward Padanaram and you find older colonials and shingled capes with narrow casings and small panes. Up off Faunce Corner and Slocum Road, the mid-century ranches have wide picture windows and sliders that open to the yard. Out toward Russells Mills, the farm properties still carry deep-set nineteenth-century sash, where an inside mount has real depth to work with. And the water-facing rooms in South Dartmouth take hard afternoon glare off Apponagansett Bay, which changes the whole conversation about fabric and openness.
That is why we start with the house, not a brochure. Every service below exists to get the right Hunter Douglas product onto the right window, fitted properly.
How we help, from first look to finished window

In-Home Consultations
Our vans carry samples, so we can bring the showroom to you. You see fabrics against your own walls, in your own light.

Free Estimates
Once the windows are measured and the products chosen, you get an estimate for the work at no charge.

Interior Design Consultations
Help pulling color, texture and light together across a room or a whole floor, so every window feels planned.
What makes a Gallery dealer different
Blinds & Designs is a Hunter Douglas Gallery dealer. In plain terms, that means we work with the full range of Hunter Douglas shades, blinds, shutters and drapery rather than a narrow slice of it, and we can steer you between product lines honestly, because we are not trying to push one shelf over another.
It also means the installation is done by people certified by Hunter Douglas. A shade can be beautifully made and still fail if it is mounted out of square, set too shallow in a casing or wired carelessly. Certified installation is the part of the job most people never think about until it goes wrong, and it is the part we care about most.
If you want to see how that plays out product by product, our Hunter Douglas dealer page walks through each family, and our window treatments page covers the broad choice between shades, blinds, shutters and drapery.

How a project usually runs
Most of our window treatment services fit into one path. Some customers use every step; others come in partway, with measurements in hand or a product already chosen.
- You request a consultation online or call the North Dartmouth showroom, and tell us a little about the rooms you want to cover.
- We come to the house with samples in the van, look at each window, talk through light, privacy and how you use the room, and measure.
- You get a free estimate for the products and the installation, window by window, so you can decide what to do now and what can wait.
- Your shades, blinds, shutters or drapery are ordered from Hunter Douglas to the measurements we took.
- A certified installer fits everything, checks that each piece runs smoothly, and shows you how to operate it.

Matching the product to the window
The choice of product usually comes down to three questions: how much light you want to keep, how much privacy you need, and how the window is built.
For the small-paned colonials and capes near Padanaram, honeycomb shades and Roman shades often suit best, because they sit neatly inside a shallow casing and do not crowd the trim. The picture windows on a mid-century ranch tend to suit roller shades, sheer shades or a wide run of honeycomb fabric that keeps the view open when raised. Sliders want something that moves sideways or stacks out of the way, such as a vertical honeycomb shade or Luminette sheers.
Deep nineteenth-century sash is where plantation shutters come into their own. A shutter frame can sit inside that depth and make the whole window look built in, and the louvers let you tilt the light rather than choose between open and shut.
Glare is its own problem. In a room that faces the bay in the late afternoon, a solar screen or a roller shade with the right openness cuts the glare while leaving the water visible. We bring openness samples so you can hold them up at the time of day that bothers you most.

Layering shades with drapery
Some rooms want two layers: a shade that does the daily work of light and privacy, and drapery that frames the window and softens the room. A formal living room in an older colonial often looks unfinished with a shade alone, while a ranch’s long picture window can feel colder with nothing at its edges. Our window treatment services cover both layers, so the shade and the drapery are chosen together, in fabrics and colors that sit well side by side, rather than bought at different times and matched by guesswork.
When motorization makes sense
Motorized shades are not just for big modern houses. They help most where a window is hard to reach, such as a high gable, a window over a tub or a run of glass behind a sofa, and where you want shades to follow the sun without thinking about it. PowerView lets you run shades from a remote or an app and set schedules, so the bay-facing rooms can close themselves before the afternoon sun comes round. Our motorized blinds and shades page goes further into how control works.
Repairs on what you already own
Not every visit is about something new. If a shade you already own has a broken cord, a slipping lift or a bent headrail, ask us about repair. We welcome that work, and it is often the sensible first step before replacing anything.
The towns we cover from North Dartmouth
From the North Dartmouth showroom we cover the South Coast around it, including Dartmouth, New Bedford, Fairhaven, Westport, Acushnet, Mattapoisett and Fall River, and across the line into towns such as Tiverton. Our Franklin and Sagamore showrooms look after their own areas, and the Canton territory is served by in-home consultation. The full list sits on our store locations page.

Window treatment questions
Do I need to know what product I want before I call?
No. Most people start with a problem, such as glare on the television, a cold room in winter or a bedroom that is too bright at dawn. We work back from that to the product that fits the window.
What happens at an in-home consultation?
We look at each window, talk about light and privacy room by room, show you samples from the van and measure. You leave with a clear idea of what would work and a free estimate for it. Our guide to what happens at an in-home consultation has more detail.
Is the consultation free?
The estimate is free. Ask us about the consultation itself when you book, and we will explain how it works for your project.
Can you work with older windows that are out of square?
Yes. Older sash and casings are common around Padanaram and Russells Mills, and measuring for them carefully is part of the job. Some products, such as shutters, can be built to suit an opening that is not perfectly square.
Do you install what you sell?
Yes. Our installation is certified by Hunter Douglas, and it is part of every order we supply.
Will you repair a shade I bought somewhere else?
Tell us what it is and what has gone wrong, and we will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired. See our blind and shade repair page.
