Why North Dartmouth windows are best judged in person
Our in-home consultations exist because a window is hard to describe and easy to misjudge from a photo, and the houses around North Dartmouth prove it every day.
The capes and colonials near Padanaram often have casings too shallow for some products and just right for others. A mid-century ranch off Slocum Road may have a picture window that is wider than it looks, plus a slider that needs room to open. The farmhouses toward Russells Mills carry deep nineteenth-century sash that is rarely square. And a room in South Dartmouth that faces Apponagansett Bay can look perfectly calm in the morning and be flooded with glare by late afternoon.
You only see those things standing at the window. So that is where we start.
What we bring to your door

Samples in the van
Our vans carry Hunter Douglas samples, so fabrics, slats and louvres can be held up against your own walls and trim.

Light at the right hour
We can look at a room at the time of day that bothers you, and test sheer and screen fabrics against the actual glare.

Careful measuring
Every opening is measured for the product chosen, with notes on depth, obstructions and anything out of square.
How the visit goes
The visit is relaxed and practical. There is no script; we follow the rooms you care about. In most homes it runs like this:
- We walk the rooms with you and listen to what is wrong with each one: too bright, too dark, too cold, too exposed to the street.
- We look at the windows themselves: how deep the casing is, how the sash opens, what is in the way, and which way the room faces.
- We show you samples from the van that answer each problem, and talk through how each product would be raised and lowered.
- We measure the windows for the products you are leaning toward.
- We put together a free estimate so you can decide on the whole house, one room, or something in between.
Our guide to what happens at an in-home consultation goes into more detail.

Choosing in your own light
Colour changes at the window. A warm white can turn cream with sun behind it; a grey can go faintly blue. Light-filtering fabrics look different at noon than at dusk. That is the main reason in-home consultations beat choosing from a screen or a sample mailed to you: you see each option in the exact light and against the exact paint you will live with.
It also makes the practical questions easier to settle. Will a shade stacked at the top block the view from the sofa? Will a shutter panel clear the window lock when it swings open? Does the slider need a product that moves sideways? Standing there together, the answers are usually obvious.

Matching products to local windows
Around Padanaram, older casings with slim trim often suit Duette honeycomb or Vignette Roman shades mounted inside, which keep the woodwork visible. On a mid-century ranch, roller and sheer shades keep the picture window clear when raised, and a vertical honeycomb or Luminette handles the slider. The deep sash on the Russells Mills farm properties is ideal for Palm Beach, NewStyle or Heritance shutters. For bay-facing rooms, we bring screen fabrics in several openness levels so you can compare them against the water at the hour the glare is worst.

After the visit
Once you have the estimate, the decision is yours, with no rush. When you are ready, Hunter Douglas makes your order to our measurements and a certified Hunter Douglas installer fits it and shows you how everything works.
If a room needs a fuller plan for colour and fabric across several windows, ask about our interior design consultations. For the broader picture of what we offer, see all our services or the Hunter Douglas dealer page.

Why a Hunter Douglas Gallery dealer comes to you
As a Gallery dealer we work with the full Hunter Douglas family of shades, blinds, shutters and drapery, so the samples in the van cover far more than one product line.
Measurements are taken with the fitting in mind, because the finished order is fitted by a certified Hunter Douglas installer. Estimates are free, and we also look after automation and repairs.
If you would rather start in person at a showroom, the North Dartmouth showroom is the main one for the South Coast.
Questions about in-home consultations
Do I need to prepare anything?
Not really. It helps to know which rooms matter most and what bothers you about each one. If there are windows you never use, such as one behind a tall bookcase, mention them so we can plan around them.
Do you bring samples?
Yes. Our vans carry Hunter Douglas samples, so we can bring the showroom to you.
Is the estimate free?
Yes. Estimates are free. Ask us about the consultation itself when you book.
Will you measure on the same visit?
In most cases, yes, once you are leaning toward particular products. Measuring is done for the product chosen, since an inside-mount shade and a shutter frame need different measurements.
Do I have to decide on the spot?
No. Take the estimate, think it over, and come back to us when you are ready.
Do you visit the whole area?
We offer in-home consultations across the areas our showrooms cover, and in the Canton shop-at-home territory. The North Dartmouth showroom covers the South Coast around it, including Dartmouth, New Bedford and Westport. See store locations for the rest.
