Why an estimate for North Dartmouth windows begins at the window

We give free estimates on Hunter Douglas shades, blinds, shutters and drapery, and we build each one from your actual windows rather than a rough guess per room.

That matters around North Dartmouth, because no two houses are measured the same way. A shingled cape near Padanaram might have a dozen small windows with shallow casings. A mid-century ranch off Faunce Corner Road usually has one wide picture window and a slider, which can call for very different products. A farmhouse out toward Russells Mills may have deep nineteenth-century sash that is slightly out of square. A bay-facing room in South Dartmouth may need a screen fabric chosen for the afternoon glare off Apponagansett Bay.

Each of those changes what goes on the estimate, so we look before we write anything down.

What an estimate covers

Peach light-filtering honeycomb shades half-raised on kitchen windows, with a woman drinking coffee by the island and a round dining table

The products, window by window

Each window is listed with the product, fabric or finish and the way it operates, so you can see exactly what you are choosing.

Installation

Fitting by a certified Hunter Douglas installer is part of the estimate, not a surprise added later.

Options you are weighing

If you are torn between two products, or between cordless and motorized, we can lay out both so you can compare them.

How to get one

Most free estimates come out of an in-home consultation, because that is when we see the windows, show samples and measure. The steps are simple:

  1. Request a consultation online, or call the North Dartmouth showroom using the call button.
  2. We visit with samples in the van, so the showroom comes to you.
  3. We talk through each room, help you narrow down the products and measure the windows.
  4. You receive your estimate, broken down so you can see what each room involves.
  5. You decide in your own time.

Why measuring comes first

Hunter Douglas products are made to order, to the size of each opening. An estimate based on a rough width per window can look tidy on paper and then change once the real measurements are taken, especially on older houses where two windows that look alike can differ noticeably.

Measuring first also settles questions that change what you buy. Is the casing deep enough for an inside mount? Will a shutter panel clear the sash lock? Does the slider need a product that moves sideways? Is the window high enough that motorization makes sense? Getting those answers up front is what makes the estimate one you can rely on.

What changes from one estimate to the next

Two houses with the same number of windows can end up with very different estimates. The product family is the obvious difference, but the details matter as well: the fabric or finish, whether a shade is light-filtering or room-darkening, top-down, bottom-up operation, cordless or motorized lift, and whether the window takes one shade or a run of two or three. Shutters vary with the material, the frame and the louvre size. Seeing each of those on paper, window by window, is what lets you adjust the plan until it suits both the house and you.

Planning a whole house or one room

Some people want every window done at once. Others start with the room that bothers them most, such as a bright bedroom or a living room with glare on the television, and do the rest later. Free estimates work either way. We can cover the whole house, and then show you how it breaks down room by room so you can choose an order that suits you.

If you are mixing products, the estimate makes it easy to compare. You might choose shutters for the deep sash in an older front room, honeycomb shades in the bedrooms for comfort, and a screen roller shade in a bay-facing room for the glare.

Help beyond the estimate

An estimate is only useful if the products on it are the right ones. If a room needs more thought about colour, fabric and layering, our interior design consultations can help. If you are considering motorization, our motorized blinds and shades page explains how control works. And if you already have shades that need attention, ask about blind and shade repair.
