What a Gallery dealer brings to North Dartmouth houses

As a Hunter Douglas dealer based in North Dartmouth, we spend our days matching one of the widest product families in the trade to some of the most varied houses on the South Coast.

Within a short drive of the showroom you have Padanaram’s older colonials and shingled capes, mid-century ranches on the streets off Faunce Corner and Slocum Road, and farm properties toward Russells Mills with deep-set nineteenth-century sash. Each asks something different of a shade. Then there are the water-facing rooms in South Dartmouth, where the afternoon sun comes off Apponagansett Bay hard enough to wash out a room.

Being a Gallery dealer means we can answer all of those from the full Hunter Douglas range, and fit the result with certified Hunter Douglas installation.

Why the dealer matters as much as the brand

Hunter Douglas makes the product, but almost everything that decides whether you are happy with it happens locally: which product is chosen for which window, how carefully the opening is measured, and how well it is installed. A beautifully made shade that is mounted crooked, set too shallow in a casing or ordered a fraction too narrow will look wrong every day.

That is why the choice of Hunter Douglas dealer matters. You want someone who knows the full range well enough to steer you between lines honestly, who measures for made-to-order products with care, and who installs to the standard Hunter Douglas sets.

As a Gallery dealer we work with the full family of Hunter Douglas shades, blinds, shutters and drapery. Our installation is certified by Hunter Douglas. And we look after the job from the first visit to the finished window, then afterwards if a repair or an automation upgrade is needed.

Matching product lines to local houses

The capes and colonials near Padanaram often have small panes, slim trim and shallow casings. Duette honeycomb or Vignette Roman shades mounted inside keep the trim on show and stack small when raised. Parkland wood blinds in a narrow slat suit the period look too.

A mid-century ranch tends to centre on a big living room picture window and a slider to the yard. Designer roller shades or Silhouette sheers keep that view when raised; Luminette or a vertical honeycomb handles the slider by moving sideways out of the way.

Deep sash on the farm properties out toward Russells Mills is ideal for shutters. Palm Beach, NewStyle and Heritance frames sit inside that depth and make the window look built in, and the louvres let you tilt light rather than block it.

For rooms facing the bay, Designer Screen and the lighter roller fabrics cut afternoon glare while keeping the water in view. The right openness is easiest to judge at the glass, at the time of day the glare is at its worst.

How a shade is raised matters as much as what it is made of. Most Hunter Douglas lines now come cordless, which keeps loose cords away from children and pets and leaves the window looking tidier. Where a window is too high or too awkward to reach, such as a gable over a stairwell or the glass behind a kitchen sink, PowerView motorization lets the shade move from a remote, an app or a schedule instead.

Choosing between lines that look alike

Part of a Gallery dealer’s job is explaining the differences between products that look similar in a picture. A few that come up often:

  • Duette or Applause. Both are honeycomb shades that hold air in their cells. They differ in fabric collections, cell styles and options, so the choice usually comes down to the look you want and the features a window needs, such as top-down, bottom-up or room-darkening.
  • Silhouette, Pirouette or Nantucket. All three soften daylight with fabric vanes. Silhouette floats its vanes between two sheer layers, Pirouette lays soft vanes over a single sheer backing for a more open look, and Nantucket is a close cousin of Silhouette with its own fabric range.
  • Palm Beach, NewStyle or Heritance. Three shutter lines in different materials. Palm Beach is a solid polysatin built for moisture and sun, NewStyle is a hybrid that looks like painted wood, and Heritance is real hardwood that can be painted or stained.
  • Roller or screen. A Designer roller shade in a solid fabric gives privacy or darkness; a screen fabric keeps the view and cuts glare, with openness that sets the balance between the two.

We bring samples of the lines that suit your windows, so you can compare them side by side rather than from a description.

Browse the full Hunter Douglas catalogue

Hunter Douglas keeps its own catalogue of every line, fabric and colour on its website. It is a good place to browse before we visit, and you can see the full Hunter Douglas catalogue here. When something catches your eye, tell us, and we will bring samples of it to your windows so you can judge it in your own light.

Where we work

From North Dartmouth we cover the towns around the showroom, including Dartmouth, New Bedford, Westport, Fairhaven, Acushnet, Fall River and Portsmouth. Our Franklin and Sagamore showrooms look after their own areas, and the Canton territory is served by in-home consultation. Each town has its own page, and the local Hunter Douglas dealer page for the showroom’s own town is here for Dartmouth. The full list is on our store locations page.

Certified Hunter Douglas installation

Installation is where a made-to-order product either looks right for years or never quite does. Our installers are certified by Hunter Douglas, which means they fit each product the way Hunter Douglas intends.

In practice that shows in the details: brackets set level even when an older frame is not, inside mounts that clear the sash lock, shades that stack evenly and stop where they should, and motorized shades paired and tested before we leave.

Repairs are part of the same care. If something you own needs attention later, ask us about blind and shade repair.

Hunter Douglas dealer questions

What is a Hunter Douglas Gallery dealer?

It is a dealer that works with the full family of Hunter Douglas products, so you can choose between shades, blinds, shutters and drapery in one place, with advice on which line suits each window.

Is it worth buying from a local dealer rather than online?

Hunter Douglas products are made to order. Most problems with made-to-order window coverings come from measuring and fitting, which is where a local Hunter Douglas dealer with certified installation earns its keep.

Can I see samples before I decide?

Yes. Our vans carry samples to your home, so you can hold fabrics up at your own windows and see how they look in the light you actually have.

Do you install everything you sell?

Yes. Installation is certified by Hunter Douglas and is part of every order.

Do you offer PowerView motorization?

Yes. PowerView adds remote and app control and schedules to many Hunter Douglas shades. See our motorized blinds and shades page.

Are estimates free?

Yes. Every estimate is free.
